Install WordPress

The control panel installs WordPress for you and creates its database, so there is nothing to download or configure by hand.

The Add website page with Install an app selected.   1. Sign in to the control panel and select Add website.

  2. Choose Install an app.

  3. Enter the website’s domain in Domain marker 1, without www..

  4. Leave Application set to WordPress marker 2 and WordPress version on the newest version, marked LATEST marker 3.

  5. Under WordPress admin account marker 4, enter the Username, Email address and Password you will use to sign in to WordPress. The key button marker 5 generates a strong password; save it in your password manager, then enter it again in Confirm password.

  6. Select Add marker 6.

  1. Open Websites, select the website and select Apps in its navigation bar.

  2. Select Install app.

  3. Choose the Domain and, if WordPress should live in a folder such as /blog rather than at the top of the site, enter the folder after the /.

  4. Fill in the WordPress admin account details as above, then select Install.

If you uploaded WordPress yourself, for example when moving a site to Sheernox, open Apps and select Scan. The control panel finds the installation and adds it to the list so you can manage it like any other.

  • From the control panel: on the website’s Apps page, select Admin marker 1. It opens the WordPress dashboard already signed in, with no password to type.
  • Directly: go to your domain followed by /wp-admin, for example https://example.com/wp-admin, and sign in with the admin username and password you chose.

The Apps page also shows the installation’s WordPress version and how many plugins and users it has. Toolkit marker 2 opens its settings; see Manage WordPress.

  • Install only the plugins you need, from sources you trust.
  • Give every admin user a strong, unique password.
  • Make sure the site loads over https://. See Secure a website with SSL and HTTPS.
