Register a domain
Sheernox registers .ca, .com and more than 400 other domain extensions. Every registration includes WHOIS privacy at no extra cost where the extension allows it.
Choose a name
Section titled “Choose a name”- Keep it short and easy to say out loud.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers unless they are part of your brand.
- Check the name is not someone else’s trademark or brand.
- If your customers are in Canada, consider registering both the .ca and .com so nobody else can take the other one.
Register it
Section titled “Register it”-
Search for the name on the Sheernox domains page or in the client portal.
-
Add the domain to your order and choose how many years to register it for.
-
Enter the registrant contact details. These must be accurate and belong to the real owner of the domain, which is you or your organization.
-
Complete the order.
If you order the domain together with hosting, it is set up to point to that hosting for you. A domain registered on its own can be pointed wherever you need it later.
Extra rules for .ca domains
Section titled “Extra rules for .ca domains”Only Canadians can register a .ca domain. The registry for .ca (CIRA) requires the registrant to meet a Canadian Presence Requirement, for example by being:
- a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- a corporation registered in Canada
- the owner of a trademark registered in Canada
During checkout you choose the legal category that matches the registrant. If you are not sure which one applies, ask support before you order.
Keep your domain renewed
Section titled “Keep your domain renewed”Renewal invoices for domains arrive with your other Sheernox invoices. If a domain expires, your website and email on it stop working, so keep your account email address up to date. See Invoices and payments.
