Check and free up disk space
See your plan’s usage
Section titled “See your plan’s usage”Open Packages in the left menu. Your plan shows how much you are using of each limit:
| Usage | What counts |
|---|---|
| Websites marker 1 | Websites on the plan |
| Disk space marker 2 | Storage used across your plan |
| Bandwidth marker 3 | Data transferred by your websites |
| Emails marker 4 | Email addresses |
| Databases | MySQL and PostgreSQL databases |
Each website’s overview page also shows the same figures under Package usage.
If you keep running close to a limit, a larger plan may suit you better. See Change your plan.
Find what is using the space
Section titled “Find what is using the space”- By website: the Website disk usage list on Home, and the Websites page, show how much space each website uses.
- By mailbox: the Emails page shows each address’s Mailbox usage.
- By file or folder: in File Manager, select a file’s menu button, then Get info to see its size.
Free up space
Section titled “Free up space”Common things that build up over time:
| What | Where to look | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Old backup files and archives | .zip, .tar.gz and .sql files in the website’s folders, often left by backup plugins or a migration |
Download any you want to keep, then delete them. Sheernox backs up your websites for you. |
| Unused websites | Test copies and staging sites you no longer need | Delete the website |
| Unused plugins and themes | The WordPress Toolkit | Delete them rather than only deactivating them |
| Cache files | wp-content/cache and similar folders |
Clear the cache from the caching plugin’s settings rather than deleting files by hand |
| Large media | wp-content/uploads |
Remove media you no longer use from the WordPress media library, and resize very large images before uploading |
| Full mailboxes | The Emails page | Empty Deleted Items and Spam, and delete or download old messages with large attachments. See Check your storage. |
Mailbox size limits
Section titled “Mailbox size limits”Each mailbox also has its own size limit, set when the address is created. A full mailbox cannot receive mail even when the plan has space left. Raise the limit or clean up the mailbox: see Change a mailbox’s password, name or size.
