Point your domain to Sheernox

Nameservers tell the internet where to find the DNS records for your domain: which server hosts your website, which handles your email, and so on. Pointing a domain to Sheernox means setting its nameservers to the Sheernox ones.

If you registered the domain with Sheernox when you ordered hosting, it already uses the Sheernox nameservers. You do not need to do anything.

  1. Sign in at the company where the domain is registered.

  2. Find the nameserver settings for the domain. They are often under “DNS”, “Nameservers” or “Manage domain”.

  3. Choose to use custom nameservers and replace the existing ones with:

    ns1.sheernox.com
    ns2.sheernox.com

If your welcome email or control panel shows different nameservers for your account, use those instead.

  4. Save the change.

Nameserver changes usually work within a few hours, but can take up to 24 to 48 hours to reach every network in the world. During that time some visitors may still reach your old host.

To check progress, look up the domain’s nameservers:

Terminal window
dig +short NS example.com

Replace example.com with your domain. When the answer shows the two Sheernox nameservers, the change has reached the network you are on.

If you want to keep your DNS with another provider, you can leave the nameservers alone and add records there instead. Ask support for the exact records your website and email need.
