Dedicated server questions

How do I order or configure a dedicated server?

Section titled “How do I order or configure a dedicated server?”

Every server is built to your specification: RAM, NVMe or SAS disk layout, RAID level and private networking. There is no automated checkout. Select Configure on any model on the dedicated servers page to contact the team, who review your requirements, send a quote and set up the server.

In Canada, servers are available in Beauharnois, Quebec and in Toronto. More datacenters are available in Europe, Asia and Australia. Stock varies by model, and the dedicated servers page shows where each one is available.

Choose a server in Beauharnois or Toronto to keep your data in Canada. The Privacy Policy explains how infrastructure providers and foreign laws can apply.

Do I need a contract, or is billing month to month?

Section titled “Do I need a contract, or is billing month to month?”

Billing is month to month, with no long-term contract or exit fee. Choose a 12-month commitment instead and the one-time setup fee is waived.

What is the private network, and how does it work?

Section titled “What is the private network, and how does it work?”

An isolated network that connects your Sheernox servers, including servers in different datacenters, at up to 50 Gbps on supported models. Replication, backup and cluster traffic on it stays off the public internet and is not billed as bandwidth.

How are IP addresses allocated, and can I add more?

Section titled “How are IP addresses allocated, and can I add more?”

Each server includes a dedicated IPv4 address and a routed /64 IPv6 block. You can add more IPv4 addresses, singly or in /28, /27 or /26 blocks, and move them between your servers for failover.

Every server includes always-on DDoS protection at the network edge at no extra charge. Gaming models add game-aware filtering for UDP game traffic such as Minecraft, Rust, ARK, Counter-Strike and TeamSpeak.

Every server includes 500 GB of backup storage on separate hardware. Mount it over NFS, SMB or FTP to keep database dumps, system images or recovery files off your server’s own disks.

Can I combine several servers into a high-availability cluster?

Section titled “Can I combine several servers into a high-availability cluster?”

Yes. Use the private network to build Kubernetes clusters, Proxmox VE clusters with Ceph storage, or MySQL Galera and PostgreSQL replicas without exposing public IP addresses.

Can I install my own operating system from an ISO?

Section titled “Can I install my own operating system from an ISO?”

Yes. Besides the templates for Linux, Windows Server, Proxmox VE and VMware ESXi, you can mount your own ISO through the IPMI/KVM console, or give the team a download link to install from.

What happens if a disk, memory module or power supply fails?

Section titled “What happens if a disk, memory module or power supply fails?”

The datacenters have technicians on site around the clock and keep spare parts in stock. Open a ticket and the failed part is diagnosed and replaced as a priority, then the hardware is tested.
