Resell UptimeHawk under your own brand
As an UptimeHawk reseller you sell website and server monitoring under your own name. Your clients sign up, sign in and pay on your own site, at your own domain, with your logo and prices. UptimeHawk runs the monitoring behind it.
Prices, reseller discounts and the activation fee are listed on the UptimeHawk reseller page.
Become a reseller
Section titled “Become a reseller”Sign in to UptimeHawk and open the Reseller menu. If you do not have an account yet, sign up first.
Once reselling is turned on, the Reseller menu holds everything on this page. Reseller > Setup Instructions walks through the same steps, and Reseller Tutorial and API Reference cover managing clients by hand or through the API.
1. Set up your reseller site
Section titled “1. Set up your reseller site”Your clients sign in at a hostname you choose, such as monitor.example.com.
-
Open Reseller > Settings.
-
In your domain’s DNS, add an A record for the hostname, pointing to the IP address shown in the setup instructions at the top of the page marker 1. If your domain uses Sheernox nameservers, see Manage DNS records.
-
Under General Settings, enter your company’s full and short names marker 2, the email address alerts and reports are sent from, and your support email address.
-
Enter the hostname in Default Hostname marker 3. To use more than one, such as both
example.comandwww.example.com, add an A record for each and list the others under Alternative Hostnames, one per line. -
Complete the rest of the form and save it.
-
Wait at least 10 minutes, then open your hostname in a browser.
If your domain has an SPF record, add the IP addresses listed in the setup instructions to it, so alert emails sent from your address are not marked as spam. See Use only one SPF record.
If the site does not load
Section titled “If the site does not load”- Wait at least 10 minutes after saving.
- Reload the page without the cache: Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R.
- Check the A record:
nslookup monitor.example.commust return the IP address shown on Reseller > Settings.
Other site settings
Section titled “Other site settings”The rest of Reseller > Settings decides what your site offers:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Free Account | Lets visitors sign up for a free plan on your site |
| Username Change | Lets clients change their own username |
| Cascading Reselling | Lets your clients become resellers under you |
| Site Content | Show a full website (features, FAQ, quick test and more), or just the sign-in screen |
| Available Languages | The languages your site is offered in |
| URL fields | Where the upgrade, SMS top-up, sign-up, FAQ and logout links send clients. Leave a field empty to use the built-in page |
| Appearance/Content Settings | Your logo (up to 250 by 100 pixels), favicon, extra HTML and custom CSS for public reports and emails |
| Advertisement Settings | Banners and text ads shown to free accounts |
2. Choose a theme
Section titled “2. Choose a theme”Open Reseller > Theme to pick one of the system themes for your site, or build a custom theme. The theme changes your clients’ site, not your own control panel. You can also download and upload a custom theme as a zip file.
Reseller > SEO sets the page title, description and keywords for each language.
3. Set prices and take payments
Section titled “3. Set prices and take payments”Open Reseller > Billing.
- Pricing turns on your price list. Set Your Selling Price to Clients for each plan, term and extra.
- PayPal and 2checkout take payments automatically: clients pay on your site and their service starts straight away. You can use either or both. Add an External Payment System connects your own billing system through the reseller API.
- Your site works in one currency. Choose one that your payment module supports.
The Reseller Discount box shows the discount you currently receive.
4. Keep funds in your account
Section titled “4. Keep funds in your account”When a client buys from you, they pay you, and the cost of their service is taken from the funds in your UptimeHawk account. If there are not enough funds, the order is held until you add more.
Keep enough funds for a few typical orders, and set a reminder so you are told when your funds run low. Add funds under Account > Funds.
Manage your clients
Section titled “Manage your clients”Open Reseller > Accounts to see your paid and free accounts.
- Make a client a reseller: use Upgrade to Reseller in their Action list, or Reseller > Upgrade Client to Reseller.
- Add an account: select Add Account, choose a plan and enter the client’s name and email. Clients can also sign up themselves on your site.
- Sign in as a client: select their username. You use your own password.
- Other actions: the Action list on each account offers Upgrade to paid plan, Upgrade to Reseller, SMS Credits, Change Password, View SMS History, suspend, reinstate and Close Account.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Suspend | Monitoring and billing stop and the client can no longer sign in. They are asked to contact you. A subscription that stays suspended is cancelled automatically 60 days after its next billing date. |
| Reinstate | Undoes a suspension |
| Close Account | Removes the account. Unused SMS credits move back to your own account. |
Your clients can only sign in from your private-label site, not from uptimehawk.com.
To email all your clients, or only paid or free ones, use Reseller > Send Email. #NAME# and #USERNAME# in the message are replaced with each client’s details.
Grow your client base
Section titled “Grow your client base”Reseller > Marketing has two programmes you can offer on your own site:
- Referral Program: your clients earn free tests or SMS credits for friends they refer, at no cost to you.
- Affiliate Program: other people promote your service and earn a commission you set on every recurring payment from clients they refer. You choose the commission, a sign-up bonus, the minimum payout and the withdrawal methods.
