Mailboxes and storage on email plans

Every Sheernox email plan has one pool of storage that all of its mailboxes share. The plan includes your first mailbox, and you add more for a small monthly price each. This page covers the Email Starter, Email Business and Email Enterprise plans; on web hosting plans, mailboxes use the plan’s disk space instead.

Each plan sets three numbers, listed on the email hosting page:

Limit What it means
Storage pool The total space all mailboxes on the plan share.
Per-mailbox limit The most a single mailbox can grow to, even when the pool has space left.
Most mailboxes How many mailboxes the plan can hold. Above that, the next plan up has room, or the team can quote a custom plan.

Every mailbox can use the full per-mailbox limit as long as the pool has space. When the pool fills up, mailboxes cannot grow further, so give each mailbox a size that suits the person using it.

Forwarders do not use storage and do not count as mailboxes. Addresses such as sales@ or info@ can forward to the people who handle them instead of having a mailbox of their own. See Set up forwarding and out-of-office replies.

The number of mailboxes you pay for is part of your email service, and the addresses themselves are created in the control panel.

  1. Ask for the new number of mailboxes: change the mailbox quantity on your email service in the client portal, or open a ticket with the number you need. Extra mailboxes are billed on the same cycle as the plan.

  2. Sign in to the control panel and create the new addresses. See Create and manage email addresses.

  3. If the control panel says you have reached your mailbox limit, the change has not been applied yet. Reply to your ticket or open one, and the team will raise the limit.

To pay for fewer mailboxes, first save any mail you want to keep and delete the addresses you no longer need in the control panel, then lower the quantity in the client portal or ask the team to do it.

Billing for extra mailboxes, including how the first-term discount applies to them, is covered by the Terms of Service and the Promotional Terms.

When you create a mailbox, set its Mailbox size; you can change it later from the mailbox’s settings page. See Change a mailbox’s password, name or size.

  • Give heavy users, such as people who keep years of attachments, a larger size.
  • Give shared or occasional mailboxes a smaller size, so they leave room in the pool for everyone else.
  • A full mailbox can no longer send or receive mail. Raise its size, or delete old mail and empty Trash and Spam.

Move to a larger email plan from the client portal for a bigger pool, a higher per-mailbox limit and more mailboxes. Your mailboxes and mail stay where they are. See Change your plan.
