How is a Cloud VPS different from web hosting?

Web hosting shares a managed server and control panel. A Cloud VPS is your own virtual machine with allocated memory, NVMe storage and root access, so you can run any software, Docker containers or a custom stack. See What is the difference between web hosting and a Cloud VPS?

No. Cloud VPS is self-managed: Sheernox keeps the host, network and hardware running, and you manage the operating system and software. The support team can help with setup questions.

Do I get root access and a recovery console?

Yes. You get full root access, plus a browser-based KVM console in the client portal for recovery when SSH or a firewall rule locks you out.

Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CloudLinux and FreeBSD, plus ready-made cPanel, Plesk (on Debian), Docker and n8n images. CloudLinux, cPanel and Plesk need their own licences.

Yes. Install a LEMP or LAMP stack yourself, or start from a cPanel or Plesk image with your own licence, and host as many sites and apps as the resources allow.

Yes. Every VPS is backed up daily at no extra cost, and you can restore from the client portal.

Yes. Move to a larger plan from the client portal. Your data and IP address stay the same, and most upgrades need only a short reboot. See Change your plan.

Always-on filtering at the network edge, at no extra cost. It absorbs volumetric attacks automatically. Application-level protection, such as a web application firewall, is part of your own server setup.

Where is my data hosted, and which privacy laws apply?

Every Cloud VPS runs in a datacenter in Beauharnois, Quebec, in Greater Montreal. Your data is stored in Canada and handled under Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA. The Privacy Policy explains which infrastructure providers Sheernox uses and how foreign laws can apply to them.

Yes. Cloud VPS is covered by the Service Level Agreement. To request a credit after an outage, see Claim an uptime credit.
