Pause, edit or remove a monitor

Everything you monitor is listed on Monitoring > Overview: websites first, then servers with their tests underneath.

Each row on the overview has an action list. Choose an action and select Go.

Action What it does
Edit Website, Edit Server, Edit Test Change the name, address, interval, notes or advanced options
Deactivate Monitoring Pauses the test. No checks run and no alerts are sent until you activate it again.
Reset Report Resets the test’s report
Remove Website, Remove Server, Remove Test Deletes the website, server or test after you confirm. Its reports are removed too.
Edit Dependency Silences this test’s alerts while a test it depends on is down (see below)
Monitoring Profile Uses different monitoring locations and sensitivity for this website or server; see Tune monitoring sensitivity
Add a Test (servers) Adds another ping or port test to the server
  1. On the overview, tick the box beside each website or test you want to change, or tick the box in a list’s header row to select the whole list.

  2. Select a button below the list: Deactivate, Activate, Change Monitoring Interval, Reset or Remove.

To apply one change to every website and server in your account, open Monitoring > Bulk Actions, choose Deactivate all tests, Activate all tests, Change monitoring interval of all websites and servers, Reset all tests or Remove all tests, and select Next.

Monitoring > Bulk Add Test adds a list of websites or servers in one go.

  1. Under I would like to add, choose websites or servers.

  2. Under I will specify, tick the details you will type for each line. Anything you do not tick, such as Monitoring interval or Notes, can be set once under the common settings and applies to every line.

  3. Enter one website or server per line, with its details separated by commas in the order the Syntax line shows.

  4. Select Next.

For websites, a line is the name and the URL:

Company website, https://www.example.com
Online store, https://shop.example.com

For servers, a line is the name, the hostname or IP address and the tests. Separate tests with a vertical bar |, give every test except PING its port in brackets, and optionally name a test with Name/ in front of it:

Web server, server.example.com, PING|HTTP(80)|HTTPS(443)
Database server, db.example.com, PING|Database/MYSQL(3306)

The test types are PING, HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, FTP, SSH, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, MYSQL, SSL, TLS and TCP. To put a comma inside a name, URL or note, type #COMMA#; for a line break inside a note, type #NEWLINE#.

Silence alerts that follow from another outage

Section titled “Silence alerts that follow from another outage”

If a server sits behind a router and the router goes down, every test behind it goes down too. A dependency sends you one alert for the router instead of one for every test.

  1. Add tests for both, for example a ping test for the router and a ping test for the server, with the same monitoring interval. Dependencies only work between tests with the same interval.

  2. On the overview, choose Edit Dependency from the server test’s action list.

  3. Under Dependent on, pick the router’s test and select Submit.

While the router’s test is down, alerts for the server’s test are held back.

Use the sort list above the overview to show tests sorted by name or by custom position, and the page size list to show more items per page. The default page size for every list in the panel is set under Account > Account Settings > Paging Preference.
