Write and send email in webmail

Write a new message
Section titled “Write a new message”-
Select Compose at the top of the left menu.

In To marker 1, type the recipient’s address. Webmail suggests matches from your contacts as you type; press Enter or select a suggestion to add it. Add as many recipients as you need.

Enter a Subject marker 2.

Write your message in the body marker 3.

Select Send marker 5.
A copy of every message you send is saved in your Sent folder.
Cc, Bcc and Reply-To
Section titled “Cc, Bcc and Reply-To”Select the + button at the end of the To field to add Cc, Bcc, Reply-To or Followup-To fields.
- Cc recipients get a copy, and everyone can see they were included.
- Bcc recipients get a copy, but no other recipient can see their address. Use Bcc when you write to a group of people who do not know each other.
- Reply-To sends replies to a different address than the one you send from.
The people button beside + opens your address book, so you can pick recipients or whole groups from Contacts.
Send from a different address
Section titled “Send from a different address”If you have set up more than one identity, choose the address to send from in From. See Signatures and settings.
Attach files
Section titled “Attach files”Select Attach in the toolbar marker 4 or Attach a file in the Options and attachments panel marker 6, then pick one or more files. You can also drag files from your computer onto the panel.
Attached files are listed in the panel. To remove one, select the delete icon beside it before you send.
Formatting, signatures and saved responses
Section titled “Formatting, signatures and saved responses”The toolbar marker 4 also has:
- Signature: inserts your signature, if you have one. See Add a signature.
- Responses: inserts a saved block of text, such as directions to your office. See Saved responses.
- Spell: checks your spelling. The arrow beside it chooses the language.
New messages start as plain text. To add bold text, lists, links or pictures, select the picture icon at the top left of the message body to switch to the HTML editor. You can make HTML the default in Settings > Preferences > Composing Messages.
Message options
Section titled “Message options”The Options and attachments panel marker 6 sets options for this message only:

| Return receipt | Asks the recipient’s mail app to confirm the message was opened. Many recipients decline or never see the request, so do not rely on it. |
| Delivery status notification | Asks the receiving server to confirm delivery. Not every server supports it. |
| Priority | Marks the message as higher or lower priority in the recipient’s inbox. |
| Save sent message in | The folder that keeps a copy of the sent message. Normally Sent. |
Drafts
Section titled “Drafts”Select Save in the toolbar to keep an unfinished message. Webmail also saves your draft automatically every few minutes while you write.
To carry on with a draft, open the Drafts folder and double-click the message. When you send it, it is removed from Drafts.
Reply and forward
Section titled “Reply and forward”Select a message, then use the toolbar above it:

| Reply all | Replies to the sender and everyone else in To and Cc. Check the list of recipients before you send. |
| Forward | Sends the message on to someone else. Attachments are included. The arrow beside it can forward the message as an attachment instead. |
Read a message in full
Section titled “Read a message in full”Double-click a message in the list to open it on its own. In the full view, Previous and Next move through the folder and Print prints the message. More has further options, such as Download to save the message as a file and Open in new window.
Under the sender’s name:
- Details shows every recipient and the full date.
- Headers shows the technical headers, which support may ask for when tracing a delivery problem.
- Plain text shows the message without its formatting.
Remote images
Section titled “Remote images”To protect your privacy, webmail can hold back pictures that load from the internet, because they can tell the sender when and where you opened the message. If a message from someone you trust looks incomplete, use the option shown above the message to display its images.
